General Objectives

  1. To identify the key ideas in science that are most useful in explaining things, and to explore the approaches science uses to find out how things happen.
  2. To analyze the nature of reliable knowledge, the claimed limitations of science, and to explore the mystery found at the heart of matter at the subatomic level.
  3. To outline what science says about the origin, development and destiny of the Universe and of life, and to identify the problems associated with chemical and biological evolution as an explanation.
  4. To recognize the many characteristics of the Universe that make it "just right" for life, and to discuss the validity of seeing these as evidence for design in nature, and as a testimony to a Creator.
  5. To provide students with a way of handling debatable and divisive issues in the area of science and religion, and of integrating the biblical and scientific data in order to provide a holistic one world view of reality.
